Happy Birthday Danielle! Have you seen our friends??

We spent one more day on the full moon party island Koh phangan. I woke up at 2pm after the party with tons of sand in my bed, flames painted on my arm, and happy faces on my knees. After scrubbing off the paint we rallied for a late day at another beach which was just as gorgeous as the last. We stayed at the beach side restaurant and called it an early night since full moon took a lot out of us and we still had to book the hotel for the next island, Koh samui.

The day we headed for Koh Samui was also Danielle's birthday. The big 2-6, so we had to do it right. Unfortunately, not all of it went right. Our ferry to the island left at noon so the plan was to check out by 11:20. While Danielle and I were getting ready and packing up, Lucila and Rachel went to go get Smoothies 5 minutes away. It was around 1040 when they left. At 11:20 they had not come back. 11:30, still no sign of them . We checked out and headed down the street thinking we could at least go to buy the ferry tickets to be ready (a very short walk away) and that we would probably cross paths on the way. We saw them at the end of our street and told them to start running. They hustled to the hotel to get their bags while we went to go get the ferry tickets. I waited by the boat with 4 tickets trying to stall the boat (this worked for 2 minutes) and Danielle waited by the ticket counter. At 12:10 our boat pulled away and our friends still hadn't arrived. The next ferry was at 430pm. Danielle was swearing like a truck driver and not happy about the change in plans, especially being that it was her birthday. We waited another 20 minutes before heading back to the hotel to look for our friends, write them an email with our new plan, and to drop off our bags to enjoy the next 4 hours. Still no friends there.

Danielle was able to see the bright side when we chose a beach to head to complete with a pirate bar. Arrrr we could order drinks in pirate tongue matey! The bar was sadly closed, but the sexy, older Belgian man that ran the beach bar/restaurant was yet another bright side of things and a fine substitution for the pirate bar. I got us 2 large (24oz) Chang beers to drink on the beach. We sat down and saw a girl in the water now referred to as fake Rachel (or Fachel) They could be twins, and Rachel is also always in the water. I walked closer to her and still could not tell if it was her. "Rachel, is that you?!" She didn't look over. Friends are still lost. After a couple hours on the beach hunger set in and we headed back to the sexy Belgian for some delicious paninis and 2 more large Changs. We were tipsy on the taxi ride back to the ferry, chatting up a french couple with us, and had long stopped caring where our friends were (more or less).

Back at the pier, still no friends. 2 more large changs, please! Danielle tried to insist that I didn't have to pay for her birthday beers but when I pointed out that they were a whopping $2.50 and yes, I did, she gave in. 144 ounces of Chang later we were on a rocking boat. I did a little dance trying to take a picture out the backcourtesy of the boat, courtesy of my Chang induced cerebellar dysfunction. Danielle was ready for a nap and sat right on the floor putting her head in her seat.

When we arrived at our hotel in Koh Samui, Lucky Mother (yes, that was our hotel name) we see our friends just past reception on the beach. Any anger I was harboring was immediately gone. I was happy they were OK, they made it, and we were reunited. Apparently, they lost track of time and jumped in a taxi to get to the pier faster. Not knowing there were 2 piers right by our hotel, the taxi took them to the other pier. The ferry at this pier left at 1230 rather than noon. They took the 1230 ferry thinking we had gotten on a noon one somewhere as planned and assuming we would be at the hotel when they got there. And I had thought they were just trying to make my blog more exciting.

As everyone was getting ready for Danielle's birthday evening I snuck off, telling Danielle I needed to go check my email, and instead went to 7-11 to buy birthday candles. We chose a restaurant recommended by lonely planet, Captain Kirk, for dinner. It was awesome. I ate a huge barracuda dish which ran me about $10 (big money in Thailand). When we first had our menus I said "mmm look at these desserts" only to prompt Danielle to look and say which one looked best to her. I excused myself to the bathroom to hand off the candles and secretly order the banana dessert. After our entrees Danielle asked for the check and our waitress looked confused. No dessert? While saying no I slyly made eye contact with her and nodded yes. Moments later surprise birthday dessert was in action. Several other tables were singing happy birthday along with us to Danielle as she laughed and smiled, loving it.

Next birthday stop: ladyboy show. It was very silly. They lip sang and danced dressing up as Cher, Celine, Whitney, and more. They looked good and feminine on stage but as each performer pranced fown the aisle passed us it was semi-frightening. The caked on make up on top of terrible skin and very manly features. During one point of the show they forced guys on stage with the intention of hitting on them and then dressing them up in drag. I asked the obviously straight guy next to me if he was nervous. He kept staring straight ahead and in the calmest sounding voice said "more than you could ever imagine". They pulled Danielle up on stage towards the end for her bday, gave her a free drink and had the audience from all over the world sing happy birthday twice.

At the lady boy show, you have to get lady boy drinks!

After the show we went to a bar on the beach, had some drinks, and smoked some hookah. Rachel recognized a girl and her boyfriend that she had met at Bed Supper Club back in Bangkok, and ran into them again at Lucky Mother earlier. They came and sat with us offering us some vodka infused watermelon and bought Danielle a tiramisu plus candle and we sang one last time. Too bad Danielle hates tiramisu and I still felt stuffed with barracuda. The girls boyfriend found Rachel on Facebook and later sent her a message saying she should come to their room if she wasn't sleeping. Winky face. No wonder they were so friendly, they are freaky!!! The couple is now known by us as the three way. She didn't go by the way...Oh Thailand.
